Taken out of their moment with all the baggage of expectation and the popular temperature, they finally stand or fall on their own two, (or one or three) legs. Similarly, plenty of supposedly great films, books, records age badly and we realize that it was the package and not the product we responded to so enthusiastically. - Which is not the same as a piece of shit being enjoyable regardless - that happens too.
